W.M. Keck Foundation Research Program

Limited Submission Deadline: 5:00 PM Monday, December 10, 2018

Application: Applications are now being accepted through Syracuse University’s Application Portal

Synopsis of W.M. Keck Foundation Research Program: The Keck Research Program is a $1M limited submission opportunity that seeks to benefit humanity by supporting projects in two specific areas (1) medical research and (2) science and engineering, that are distinctive and novel in their approach, question the prevailing paradigm, or have the potential to break open new territory in their field. Past grants have been awarded to major universities, independent research institutions and medical schools to support pioneering biological and physical science research and engineering, including the development of promising new technologies, instrumentation or methodologies. Abstracts of Previously funded programs can be found here: http://www.wmkeck.org/grant-programs/research/medical-research-grant-abstracts

Concept Paper Guidelines: Concept papers should be 1 page in 12 point font with 1-inch margins and should include:

  • PI names and Keck Program (Science and Engineering or Medical)
  • An overview of the proposed project emphasizing any unique aspects and pilot studies (mostly what and how, not much on why)
  • A description of the approach and methodology
  • A brief explanation about why the work is transformational, high-risk, and/or distinctive (look towards the future, where could this go?)
  • A brief justification of the need for Keck support, including if project has been rejected by other funders; and
  • An estimated budget (~$1M) broken down by major areas
